BBL, or BroadBand Light, is a high intensity light therapy used in the treatment of skin irregularities such as redness, discoloration, wrinkles, fine lines, sun spots and much more. By sending controlled amounts of heat to damaged skin, an immune response is triggered that sends the skin into repair mode, increasing the production of collagen.

What is BBL laser treatment?

BBL laser treatment involves the application of visible and infrared light to treat areas of the skin affected by aging, sun damage or other complexion issues. The BBL device sends controlled amounts of heat to damaged skin, which triggers the body’s natural healing response. In turn, the production of collagen and elastin are increased, promoting younger, healthy looking skin. By exposing the skin cells to a controlled trauma, the body is signaled to remove damaged cells and build new ones. When performed properly, the laser does not cause further wounding or lasting scarring of the skin.

While BBL therapy can cover up evidence of trauma to the skin, it does not resolve the underlying issues causing the skin damage. Once the problem has been properly treated, BBL can be an effective aesthetic treatment. For example, BBL therapy would not be efficacious on an active acne breakout, but can provide great results in the reduction of acne scarring.

What areas of the body can I use BBL treatment on?

BBL can be used to treat any area of the body. It is most commonly used to treat sun damaged skin, and is therefore most often used on sun exposed areas such as the face, neck, shoulders, chest, arms, hands, legs and feet.

Is one BBL treatment enough?

To achieve the transformative skincare results that most patients desire, more than one BBL treatment is almost always necessary. While BBL is an effective treatment for a number of skin conditions that produces marked results after one treatment, multiple sessions are required to undo years of damage, especially when deeper layers of the skin are affected.
Occasionally, if the treated skin conditions are mild, some people can attain their skincare goals after only one BBL treatment. However, this is seldom the case. With multiple treatments, BBL can effectively treat these concerns:

– Vascular Lesions (small blood vessels)
– Pigmented Lesions (freckles, age spots)
– Loose Skin
– Uneven skin texture

Over time our skin accumulates pigment from the sun, scarring, hormones and environmental factors, so it usually takes a few sessions to address the different layers of accumulated pigment. It is not possible to avoid acquiring new pigment, as exposure to the sun and other factors is inevitable. To maintain the best results, schedule a follow-up BBL treatment once every year.

How long does BBL last?

The duration of the results of a BBL treatment will depend upon a number of factors, including the type and severity of the condition being treated, the individual physiology of the patient and the overall health of the patient. Proper aftercare is also vital, and will produce the most long-lasting effects. After the desired results of the patient have been achieved, which is usually after several treatments, the results last, on average, about one year. These results can be maintained with follow-up treatments, which are typically required once every twelve months.
